CALL FOR ART

In Living Color

In connection with Pride month, the Brookings Arts Council is opening a call for art inviting any queer identifying artist that lives or works in South Dakota to submit original works. This exhibition, In Living Color, is open to two and three dimensional media types. Works are due to the Arts Council by May 26th, with an opening reception on June 1st. The show will run through July 16th, 2023.

ENTRY GUIDELINES :

Eligibility
: Queer identifying artists and makers in South Dakota, who make work that can be shown in a gallery context. Open call, salon hung, reflecting the community.

- Work is welcome to, but does not need to be specifically queer in content or context to be submitted or displayed.
- Artist may use a pseudonym on work on display but must leave contact information with the BAC. All information will remain private.
- Artists may submit 3 pieces for display.

If the number of pieces submitted exceeds the allowed gallery space, we reserve the right to limit the number displayed as gallery space allows. Artists may submit a maximum of three pieces. A minimum of one piece will be displayed.

Location: 524 4th St. Brookings, SD. The Brookings Arts Council is located in the renovated historic former Carnegie Library of the city of Brookings. There is 103 feet of wall space and approximately 1300 square feet of floor space between two galleries. There are a variety of pedestals of various sizes available for use. 

Deadline: Works must be delivered to the Brookings Arts Council between May 9th and May 26th, 2023

Entry Instructions:
While there is no entry fee for this exhibition, registration is required. Please complete the linked Google Form in its entirety. You may either print and complete the attached labeling and release forms yourself, or do so in person upon the delivery of work to the BAC.

Presentation & Framing:
Visual art works must be framed and or have the ability to hung, contact us at directorbac@swiftel.net if you are in need of assistance

Three-dimensional artworks may not exceed 75lbs. Please contact us regarding the dimensions of your work if it is an oversized piece.

Transportation of Work:
Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick-up of their art. Delivery or mail ready-to-hang works to the address listed below. If mailed, artist is responsible for return shipping and handling costs.

Sale of Work:
The Brookings Arts Council receives a 25% commission on any pieces sold while on exhibit. Entry in the exhibition signifies agreement with all conditions of the exhibition. Artwork will remain at the BAC, marked as “SOLD” until the end of the exhibition, and which time the artist of the sold work will be given a check and the purchased piece will be released to it’s buyer.

Notes:
The BAC reserves the right to preclude works from the show. Due to the open age range of the call and public gallery location art depicting nudity may not portray genitalia; any nudity must depict only consensual adults. Pornography, violence, and anything overtly obscene will not be accepted. The decision of the Brookings Arts Council is final on this matter.

The Brookings Arts Council will take every precaution to ensure the safety of submitted artwork. However, the BAC will not be responsible for any loss or damage to your artwork, no matter how the loss or damage is incurred. Artists are responsible for insuring their own work.

Photo Release
The BAC reserves the right to use images exhibited for publicity purposes. By submitting artwork to this Call for Art, you agree to allow the Brookings Arts Council the right to video record and/or photograph work and use the clips and/or photographs in promotional videos, print and online.
