πŸ“… Important Dates

  • Drop-Off Window:
    July 30 – August 8, 2026
    Artwork must arrive by 5pm on Saturday, August 8, 2026

  • Opening Reception & Awards:
    Thursday, August 13 | 5:30 – 7:30pm
    Awards announced at 6:30pm

  • Exhibition Closes:
    September 12

  • Artwork Pickup:
    September 13, 16-19
    Work must be picked up or have return shipping arranged by September 25

βœ… Eligibility & Requirements

  • Open to all 18+ artists living or working in South Dakota (or within a 60 mile radius of Brookings into Minnesota)

  • Work must be:

    • Original and completed

    • Not previously shown at the BAC

    • Not AI-generated or AI-assisted

    • Wired and ready to hang (see framing notes below)

  • No photography (reserved for a separate annual show in January)

  • Max of 3 pieces per artist

  • All appropriate entries will be included, space permitting

πŸ’΅ Entry Fee

  • $20 per piece, up to 3 entries

  • Pay by card, cash, or check, or submit online payment

If your piece(s) cannot be displayed for any reason, your entry fee(s) will be refunded.

Complete your entry online or in person by August 15.

  1. Fill out the Online Entry Form
    – or – download the Printable Entry Form

  2. Attach printed or handwritten Artwork Tags to the back/bottom of each piece

  3. Submit payment

  4. Drop off work during gallery hours between July 31 and August 15.

πŸ–ΌοΈ Presentation Guidelines

  • 2D Work:
    Must be wired to hangβ€”no sawtooth hangers, nail holes, metal clips, or loose paper
    (Our historic gallery primarily uses a rail system)

  • 3D Work:
    Must be under 75 pounds and stable (no wet or overly fragile pieces)

Artists are responsible for:

  • Delivery and pickup of work

  • Return shipping (if shipping to us)

  • A 25% commission is taken on sold work

  • Sold work remains on display until the exhibition ends

  • Artist payment issued after the close of show

  • Announced August 13 at 6:30pm

  • You do not need to be present to win

  • Judging decisions are final; honorable mentions may be given

  • BAC is not responsible for damage, loss, or unclaimed work regardless of cause. Artists are encouraged to insure their own pieces.

  • Content guidelines: Due to the public gallery location, any works containing overtly sexual themes, obscenity, violence, or culturally insensitive elements will not be accepted. Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis, and the decision of the Brookings Arts Council is final on this matter.

  • BAC may photograph artwork for promotional use (not for resale), artist retains all copyrights.
