Statement of Work
The collection on display includes various unique, one-of-a-kind pieces including woven wall hangings and sculptural rock art pieces. Pieces in this collection are inspired by nature and the beauty that surrounds us in everyday life. Several years ago, I experimented with wrapping small rocks, twigs, and branches. I then began to add other natural elements and no-loom weaving and larger scale pieces emerged.
My pieces start with a single element of inspiration like a specific rock, twig or branch. The work evolves as it is being created and I incorporate other elements that fit the composition. In my hands it feels as if the rock and branch are making their own art emerge! Items like buffalo horn rings, antlers and antler rosettes, turkey and pheasant feathers, dried pods, and leather are a few of the things I like to weave into my art.
Artist Bio
As an emerging artist, I work primarily in watercolor, mixed media and art incorporating various elements of nature.
The best moments and memories in my life involve creating around the table with my mom and sister, and friends. I was born and raised in a small town in South Dakota. I left South Dakota to pursue a professional career and upon retiring, returned to my native prairie state. Now I indulge my passion for creating art. I am proud of my South Dakota Heritage!
I have no formal training, but as a dedicated life-long learner in the creative arts, I am a self-taught artist in many mediums. I have taken classes, learned from other artists and have done lots and lots of experimenting, trying new ideas. Most of my art is inspired by nature and the beauty that surrounds us in everyday life.
I create in watercolor, watercolor batik, mixed media, acrylic, nature crafts, weaving, paper crafts, beading, and culinary arts.
