Artist Statement
In my adult life, the tenor and themes of my work have been shaped by my journeys through woman- and motherhood. The loss of my first son during pregnancy and the bittersweet joy of raising my two surviving children anchor many of my pieces. In my life and my work as a nurse, I have experienced first hand the intensity of despair, anger, sacrifice, and forgiveness – all emotions I’ve sought to capture on canvas.
However, my biggest influence for this show has been the loss of my aunt, Bertie, who passed away the week I learned my application for this show had been accepted. Although grief and healing has been a common thread in my art for years, this grief took center stage in this collection. An artist herself, for all my life Bertie had pushed me to explore my own love for art. She proclaimed herself my biggest fan, and I was so excited to share my first solo show with her. And now, in a way I never wanted, I am.
Through these paintings, I seek not only healing for myself, but also the chance to illustrate to all who carry grief and loss: we need not bear the weight alone.

Artist Bio
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from a young age I was steeped in the rich cultural and artistic heritage of the American Southwest. Some of my fondest childhood memories were made painting with my aunt, Bertie, and taking trips with her to the world-famous galleries in Santa Fe. The pieces and works I witnessed there showed me the weight and emotion of what could be captured on canvas and ignited my passion for the visual arts.
